About the club

WestNam United is a sporting club which was officially established in 1991. Unofficially, the Club’s history extends back to the early 1980s.

It was formed by a group of Vietnamese Australians living around Marangaroo, Mirrabooka, Koondoola, Balga, Alexander Heights and Ballajura with a shared common goal to come together once a week to kick a soccer ball around and build a social atmosphere of camaraderie.

WestNam takes its name from the combined words Western Australia and Vietnam, recognising the Vietnamese origins of the Club and the great State of Western Australia in which we live.

However, these days, WestNam is not affiliated to any one nation or county, it is mainstream and the catchment of the Club and its players extend not only to the original boundaries of Marangaroo, Mirrabooka, Koondoola, Balga, Alexander Heights and Ballajura but beyond.

The Club consists of players from all over the World including Vietnam, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand. A third of our members are recent refugees and migrants to Australia.

The Club promotes cultural diversity and inclusion. The Club is duly incorporated under the Associations Incorporations Act 2015.

The Club is affiliated to Football West, the peak body that administers the sport of soccer in the State. Football West is affiliated to Football Federation Australia.

For most of its 25 years history, the Club has called Shelvock Park in Koondoola as its home ground. With 300 plus members, suffice to say, the Club has now out grown its current facilities and is in need of facility upgrades and extensions.

This document serves as an information and consultation paper for the Club in its pursuit for better facilities for its members.

We hope that with the help and support of local government, State government, Department of Sport and Recreation, LotteryWest and various other funding sources, the Club can improve its facilities and provide new amenities for the enjoyment of all its members and the local community.
